Sarawak is one of the two Malaysian states on the island of Borneo. Also known as Land of the Hornbills, it is situated on the north-west of the island. It is the largest state in Malaysia; the second largest, Sabah, lies to the northeast.
Kuching is situated at the banks of the Sarawak River on the North-Western part of the island of Borneo. The origins of the city’s name have never been clear. But one thing for sure is that the city has never been noted for having a significantly large population of cats. To refer Kuching as the City of Cats is just part of a modern effort of tourism, it holds no real meaning at all to Kuchingites. For those who has never been to Sarawak, Kuching is a great starting point to explore the state and there are many sights within its compact centre.
